Homage to Bob Carlos Clarke
THINKING:
Bob Carlos-Clarke (1950-2006) is well known for his very strong, sexually charged images of women. He does not compromise in his images and they are powerfully seen and presented.
NikiMarie and I wanted to create some work in a similar vein, using powerful colours and graphical compositions.
SEEING:
Red is always a very powerful colour in an image. Red has a number of connotations in our minds - and here it is the red of lust and sexual energy that comes to the fore.
All the shapes within the setting are rectangles, clear horizontal and vertical lines. Then there is this flowing shape of NikiMarie's long legs sinuously rising, falling and then rising over the buttocks again.
In this way, the figure is contrasted strongly against the setting.
DOING:
Text in pictures can be very distracting. This image was shot in a very small room with flash which meant I was using a wider angle lens at a moderate aperture. This has led to deeper depth of field than I would really have liked.
In retrospect, shooting with a wider aperture and less powerful lights would have allowed the books on the bookcase to drift further out of focus and be less eye catching. You'll note though these are photography books.
