Post Workshop Critique for Bob B.
This is Bob's selection of images for critique following our "Fashion on the Streets" shoot with Carla Monaco in Cheltenham.
Could do with just a little extra warming. The hand is a little large in the frame, a little tuck onto the arm would have helped. Not so happy about the flash of white collar, needed both sides of the collar or neither.
Nice crop, well contained background. Lovely soft lighting coming across with a good camera angle into the narrow side.
Well managed image in a slightly awkward location. Like the hint of vignette around the edges.
Well caught pose and expression - the downward gaze works well here.
Looks like full on flash has killed out the lighting here. Getting the flash of camera would help such a lot.
This is not a great pose. Firstly the hands are really awkward. Secondly, the pose loses all the length of Carla and hides the clothes.
Finally, the whole rock and bushes think looks quite unnatural - the park is too tidy here.
The combination of problems makes it the weakest shot in the set.
Like this composition a lot, well seen and framed. Like the way the bridge/tunnel is all there, with the brick detail at the top and pillars to each edge. The leading line of the path edge through to Carla, the repeated curves. Carla's pose into the frame works well.
This was a tight space and so the shot is quite wide angle, normally I would complain, but I like it here, it adds some good drama. The pose is good though again the hands are very strong in the image.
Much better version, the pose is stronger, the hands less dominant. The expression is better. The dutch angle really helps a lot too.
You use quite a lot of vignette on your images and I quite like it, just be a little careful and don't over do it. I think you could dial it back a couple of notches on all of these.
You should look at your post processing technique for sharpening, contrast and saturation. All of these images could do with a little more "punch" - the easy way is a tweak with the clarity slider.
Overall though, a good collection and a clear progression through the day :)
