Royal Photographic review of my workshops

For the past two months I have given you information about discounted studio workshops that we have on offer from a fellow DIG member and professional, Simon Walden. I'm studying a BTEC certificate in Studio Photography at present and thought this would be a good introduction into Boudoir and further studio work. So I found this a very interesting day as in his workshop he touched on Butterfly and Rembrandt lighting

This was a first time for me to attend one of these workshop and the first time of shooting a professional model so I wasn't sure what to expect and thought I would find myself out of my depth. At 54 I'm not shy but to take images of nude or boudoir..... hmmmm. I wasn't sure what to expect. However there were no uneasiness and it was all so professional and exceptionally relaxed. Brilliant.

The workshop itself was excellent as Simon not only explained how we should shoot an image but how we should treat the model and the difference of how we should shoot a male model over a female model. What was acceptable in editing and poses. He showed his expertise by taking a few images off the cuff, which had you in awe. He knew exactly what he was talking about.

Victoria herself was stunning and so professional, making it easy for us all with her repertoire of looks. The studio had three to four areas where different lighting and natural light could be used. Simon would set the scene with Victoria, then demonstrate how we should pose Victoria. He then gave us around 20mins in each scenario to take our own shots, plenty of time. At the end of the day I had over 200 images.

The day started around 11:30 and finished at 6:30 with the last 15mins each to set our own shots up, using the props and lighting provided. Simon was on hand all the time to answer questions and advise as the day progressed.

At the end of the day I left feeling I had learnt a lot without realising it due to Simons relaxed style and made some friends along the way. I will certainly be back for more and have already booked for his workshop in May "Fashion nudes in the woods"

Finally I was also impressed that Simon took the time the review some of our images and give honest critique. Which is what we all need as you can always learn more in Photography.
